New WAYKS Pre-Order campaign: Sling Combo and Day Pack Mini

Hi all,

It has been almost 2 years since we sent your rewards to you and it has been quite a ride since then. Time to touch base and let you know what we have been up to.

Firstly, in case you are not subscribed to our newsletter and are not following us on Instagram, we wanted to let you know that we just launched a pre-order campaign for our new collection of bags: The Sling Combo and the Day Pack Mini – two perfect additions to your WAYKS ONE. Until 31.03.2021, these can be pre-ordered at discounted prices at wayks.com. Shipment will be in June.

The Sling Combo

A transformable, sustainably made Crossbody Bag that converts into a Tote Bag, Backpack and a smaller Hip Bag.

The Day Pack Mini

Our smallest Day Pack, sustainably made, with extendable roll top, laptop compartment and comfortable straps, ideal for carrying the essentials. It also attaches to your WAYKS ONE via the Mat Strap.

A very special photoshoot

The campaign for our new collection was shot with a vibrant group of Namibian graduates in their vast and beautiful homeland. Their positive energy – even in these challenging times – was contagious and resulted in photos full of pride and optimistic spirit. Fantastic 2019, challenging 2020

After we had sent out your rewards, we had a very successful 1st year in business. Our backpacks were selling faster than expected and by August 2019 they were sold out before our 2nd production quantity arrived in late October. Upon the request of many customers, we started developing the WAYKS ONE Compact, a smaller version of the WAYKS ONE, which has been available since June 2020.  

After we had just prepared for a big 2020, the COVID pandemic hit our young business hard – understandably, suddenly far less people needed a new travel backpack.

No need to sugarcoat it – it was a tough year and the start into 2021 still is, but we are full of excitement and optimism about our new Sling Combo and Day Pack Mini and for the 2nd half of this year in general. We cannot wait to travel again and we know we are by far not the only ones. Once this pandemic is under better control, we hope that you and your WAYKS ONE can fully enjoy hitting the road again.

It’s shipment time! :)

Hi all,

We got some goooood news for you! All WAYKS ONE backpacks and accessories have arrived at our fulfilment center and are waiting impatiently to meet their new owners. They will be packed and shipped out to you over the coming days – a bit earlier than we expected initially :).

So here comes the low-down:

When does my parcel arrive?

We expect that all parcels will be shipped out by end of next week. If your shipping address is within Europe, it should only take a few days to arrive -  from the date your parcel is sent out. If your shipping address is outside Europe, it should take 2-3 weeks for most of the parcels from the date of shipment, maybe a bit longer if you are very far away from Germany. 

Can I track my parcel?

We will send a tracking number to everyone through BackerKit, but it may take until next week until we are able to do so. In some cases (for European addresses) your parcel might actually arrive before we are able to provide the tracking number.

Which carrier are you using? 

We send out all parcels with DHL. DHL delivers the parcels themselves in many European countries. In some European countries, and in countries outside of Europe, DHL collaborates with local delivery companies, usually the local postal service, which will deliver the parcel to you.

What do backers outside the European Union need to be aware of?

As stated on our Kickstarter page, depending on the laws in your country, your government may charge you customs fees, duties and / or taxes for importing your reward. Your parcel will be sent together with a customs declaration and invoice. More information on this topic is available in the customs section on our Kickstarter page.

More questions about your parcel?

Please do not hesitate to email us at [email protected] if any questions come up - we will try our best to answer as fast and accurate as we can. However, please understand that over the next 7-10 days it will be a very busy time for us with lots of work, so we may be a bit slower to respond than usual. We will also be exhibiting at the Berlin Travel Festival this Friday to Sunday (March 8th - 10th), so come and visit us at our booth. We will try and reply to any queries in the evenings.

What to do when the WAYKS ONE arrives?

• Get out there, travel, explore - have a great time and enjoy what your WAYKS ONE is made for
• Take your time to get to know it. Some features are different than what you know from other backpacks. It might need some time getting used to them and discovering their full potential. We have instructional videos (refer to the manual that comes with your order) available to show how the different modular parts come together, and if any questions remain, just get in touch at [email protected]
• We would love to read your feedback, see your pictures, and hear about your adventures with the WAYKS ONE, e.g. on Instagram (@wayksberlin, #onebagendlessadventures), Facebook, in the comments section of our Kickstarter page, or wherever you may meet us

Locking shipping address surveys

Hi all,

While we are excitedly waiting for our products to arrive at our fulfilment center in Germany in March, we want to use the time to be perfectly prepared for shipping out your parcels as quickly as possible once we have our backpacks in stock.

Therefore, we will lock our BackerKit address surveys already on Tuesday, February 19th. This will give us enough time to prepare all address and customs data and run tests with our fulfilment partners` systems. 

It would be great if by then you could submit any address changes via your BackerKit survey at https://wayks.backerkit.com/. If you have trouble locating your survey, you will find helpful information in Update 5. 

BackerKit will also automatically send you a reminder email. If you still need to change your address after February 19th, please email us at [email protected], and we will take care of it.

Everything is still going according to schedule and we are not expecting any unforeseen events that could delay our time plan. While we are not able to communicate a shipping date just yet, we will be able to share this and more details about the fulfilment process closer to the date of shipment.

Production has started!

Good evening from Vietnam!

We are very excited to tell you today that our production is in full swing. We have had three busy days so far and must say: it is a very exciting process to be part of. Fabian has accompanied the production since Day 1 and is busy running around the factory all day. :)

It is really impressive to see how efficient everything works hand in hand.

Hi all,

We hope you have managed to navigate smoothly through the busy pre-Christmas period so far.

In this update we'd like to share some further info on our production progress. But before we dive into it, some important info:

Survey Lock Date

Our BackerKit Survey will be locked on January 2nd. To reserve your preferred colour and accessories, and to make sure your rewards will be in the first batch to be sent out, you need to submit your survey by this date the latest.

Payment for any additional products you purchased after the campaign via BackerKit will be processed on January 3rd.

Production Update

Again, good news: everything is still going according to plan!

We received our final production sample, which is now approved. Most of our materials also arrived at our manufacturer's facilities. Putting together a single backpack can be quite a logistical challenge. We work with 20 different suppliers, who deliver the various components of our bags. 

Right now we are still waiting for our beautiful fabrics and some buckles to arrive before production will kick off in January. Tickets are booked and bags are almost packed! :)

We can't wait to share some behind-the-scenes footage from our production then.

Gift Cards

For those of you, who requested printed gift cards, we will post these out on Monday, so watch your letter box. If you are still considering gifting the bag to a loved one for Christmas, you can add a free gift card to your BackerKit Order until coming Monday, Dec 17th. 

Additional bags, however, can still be purchased at your exclusive Kickstarter discount via BackerKit until January 2nd.

We'd like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas. You will read from us in the new year, when we will post an update right from our production facilities.
